Tony's High School U.S. HistoryThe U.S. History students started the semester with a unit on indigenous cultures in America. They decided to focus on tribes in the southwest, specifically the Apaches. They've been doing several projects in class to better understand how they lived in the desert, including practicing throwing an at-latl. To make a tipi, they found saguaro ribs for the frame, and dug them into the ground. They used tarps to make the coverings instead of animal hides. They also have been making their own adobe bricks to build a fire pit at the Animal Center. They've been experimenting with mixing dirt they harvest from the desert with different materials, such as sand, concrete, and hay, to strengthen the bricks.

Dawn's Jr. High Environmental ScienceDawn's junior high students are working on a recycling program and a composting program for our Kino family. They are passionate about the environment and have some really great ideas. They are also working in the green house! Dawn's High School Environmental ScienceDawn's high school students have been discussing worldviews, water issues and agriculture. They had our first adventure this week and discovered how little water was at Sweetwater Wetlands! They enjoyed the experience, but they are concerned about water issues in the desert we live in. They also talk about innovation and inspiring people who change the world.
