While Kino doesn’t use traditional grade levels, we group students into four main categories: Primary, Mid-Level, Junior High, and High School. Primary is comprised of K-2nd grade students ranging in age from 4.5-8, Mid-Level is comprised of 3rd-5th grade students ranging in age from 8-11, Junior High is comprised of 6th-8th grade students ranging in age from 11-14, and High School is comprised of 9th-12th grade students ranging in age from 14-18+. For all students, the Kino curriculum is based on solving problems, asking questions, and exploring projects that our students find interesting and worthwhile. Our educational practices are based on each student’s interests and developmental needs. Each child is a unique individual with a history, strengths, and needs. We teach based on what is best for each child. We provide student-centered, small-group instruction with an average teacher-student ratio of 1:6.
At Kino, we believe in developing good humans in addition to good students. Our kids explore their independence and develop confidence while understanding the interdependence of our community. Our curriculum encourages them to learn problem-solving, effective communication, critical thinking, and a sense of community and responsibility.
