Griffin, who also plays the drums and sings in the Kino band, is planning to be an ecology major in college next year.
If you go to Tohono Chul Park on a Saturday (and why not? It’s one of the nicest ways to spend the day) you are likely to see Griffin, who volunteers there four hours every week.
Griffin has been working there for about a year. He spends his time mostly in either the propagation or the retail greenhouses, caring for the native plants they grow there. He says he transplants seedlings, transports plants from one greenhouse to the other, and, when he’s in the retail greenhouse, answers questions.
The experience of working at Tohono Chul Park is one-of-a-kind. Set back from the intersection at Oracle and Ina, it’s an outstanding botanical garden that focuses on the Sonoran Desert.
Griffin says that working at Tohono Chul provides great experience for later getting a paying job. Plus, “My boss Ross is very knowledgeable, so I’ve been learning a lot about plants.”
