Kino alum Ernest Espinoza (he graduated from Kino in 2002) was at school this morning demonstrating the otiosity of power tools.
Starting at 11:11, Ernest began hacksawing through a length of railroad track, surrounded by a crowd of students. Interest remained high because Ed had offered the prize of a steel bunion to whoever made the closest guess of the time it would take.
Ernest kept at it almost through lunch time. When he was nearly all the way through he finished the job with a sledge hammer (“It’s technically not cheating because he didn’t say he wouldn’t hit it with a sledge hammer,” reasoned Ed.)
The railroad track fell into two pieces at 12:22. After some muddled math, it was decided that Daniel won the steel bunion. Patrick and Maya share a second prize — an onion. If anyone wants to know what a steel bunion it, they need to ask Daniel.
For those who don’t know, Ernest made the 9 foot tall dragon by our mailbox when he was a student here. After graduating from culinary school and being a chef for a few years, he now spends most of his time at the Sculpture Resource Center making wonderful stuff.
