Bob Hanshaw

Bob Hanshaw is our new music teacher. He’s got incredibly eclectic musical interests and background, and is coming to Kino ready to do all kinds of music with all ages of kids.

A third generation Tucsonan, Bob went to University High and to U of A, where he studied classical voice, choir, conducting, and composing. He was the assistant director for the top undergraduate choir at U of A.

This summer he toured the west coast with his band Boreas (he plays bass and guitar and is one of the lead singers), self-described as “an ensemble with echoes of Grizzly Bear and Radiohead mingling with the Strokes, medieval monody, electric grooves and avant-garde surrealism.”

He also likes to bake bread. He and his wife Elise have a two year old daughter.

Bob’s got a lot of ideas for music this year, including a choir, a rock band, and a music theory class. And how about a Kino marching (or samba’ing?) band for Dia de los Muertos parade and the Parade of Lights?
